The Sportsworld Fiji Under-20 rugby team is gearing up for a crucial match against the Hurricanes which marks the start of their Super Rugby U20 campaign. Head coach Senirusi Seruvakula expressed the importance of this game, emphasizing that a victory is essential for advancing in the tournament.

In an interview, Seruvakula reflected on the team’s history against the Hurricanes, noting that they have not secured a win against them in four years, which adds extra pressure and motivation. “We want to make it count and create history out there,” he stated, urging his players to embrace the experience and perform well both as individuals and as a team.

The squad, many of whom are transitioning from the Vodafone Deans competition, is expected to face a steep learning curve as they compete against tougher international teams. Seruvakula aims to use this tournament not only to win but to assess the talent for potential future roles in the Fiji Warriors setup, highlighting a long-term vision for player development.

With Iliesa Erenavula appointed as captain, chosen for his leadership skills and prior experience in the Super Rugby U20, the team hopes to showcase their abilities on a significant platform. Erenavula himself has expressed pride and determination, inspired by his familial ties to rugby legacies.

The upcoming matches present a pivotal opportunity not just for competition but also for the players to gain invaluable experience ahead of future tournaments, such as the Oceania Championship. Seruvakula remains optimistic, believing the team can replicate their unbeaten success from the women’s Super W competition.

As the team prepares to depart for New Zealand on March 15 for their opening match at Owen Delaney Park, they carry with them the hopes of their nation, aiming to make a significant mark in the Super Rugby landscape.

This initiative embodies a promising outlook for Fijian rugby, focusing on nurturing young talent while fostering a competitive spirit that could set the stage for future success on the international stage.
