The Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 rugby team is gearing up for an exciting tour of New Zealand next month, with high hopes for success. Head coach Sireli Bobo shared that their training camp is set to begin on January 3, with plans to depart on January 29.
Bobo expressed his gratitude to the FSC for organizing the Under-20 sevens series, which consisted of five competitive legs across various locations including Navua, Sigatoka, Savusavu, Rakiraki, and culminating at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on November 30. He noted the impressive turnout, highlighting the abundance of raw talent showcased by young players throughout the tournament.
Following the conclusion of the series, Bobo announced the selection of his team, mentioning that clubs like Village Boys, QVSOBs, Ca’au, and Dominion Brothers displayed consistent performances, adding excitement to the competition. He commented on how even lesser-known teams posed challenges to well-established clubs.
The team’s primary objective during the New Zealand tour is not only to secure victories but also to provide players with essential exposure, particularly enriching experiences for those who may be flying for the first time. Bobo emphasized the importance of robust grassroots programs to nurture young talent, explaining that this tour serves as a platform for players to potentially earn a chance to represent their country by wearing the national team’s white jersey.
With a focus on player development and building a competitive spirit, the FSC Under-20 team is looking forward to a rewarding experience that could pave the way for future successes in rugby.
This tour represents a significant step for young athletes, offering them opportunities not only to compete but also to grow and gain valuable life experiences. It illustrates a commitment to developing talent and nurturing future stars in the realm of sports.
