The Fiji Sports Council’s Under-20 rugby team is diligently preparing for their upcoming tour to New Zealand, set to take place next month. Head coach Sireli Bobo has emphasized that victory is their primary aim while also focusing on player development. The training camp is scheduled to kick off on January 3, with the team departing for New Zealand on January 29.

Bobo expressed gratitude towards the Fiji Sports Council for facilitating the Under-20 sevens series, which took place over five competitive legs in various locations, culminating at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on November 30. This series proved to be instrumental in showcasing raw talent from numerous emerging clubs, including Village Boys, QVSOBs, Ca’au, and Dominion Brothers. He noted that even lesser-known teams provided strong competition against more established ones, highlighting the depth of talent in grassroots rugby.

The upcoming tour is particularly significant as many players will be experiencing air travel for the first time, representing a milestone opportunity in their sporting journey. Bobo envisions this tour not only as a chance to compete but also as an essential experience that could help shape the players’ aspirations of wearing the national jersey in the future.

In summary, the FSC Under-20 team’s tour is set against a backdrop of excitement and ambition, focusing not only on competition but also on the growth and development of young athletes. This initiative showcases the commitment to nurturing rugby talent in Fiji and instills hope for a bright future for the sport. With thorough preparations and a clear objective, the team is eager to embrace this opportunity to shine on the international stage.
