The Fiji U-16 women’s team celebrated their first victory at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship by defeating the Cook Islands 2-0 in a vital match held in Suva. Following a tough 3-3 draw against Tonga, Fiji entered the game with a strong determination to win and maintain their chances for a semi-final spot.
Fiji took the lead in the 14th minute with a goal from Sisilia Kuladina, who continued her impressive form from the previous match by scoring again. She capitalized on an opportunity just outside the box, striking the ball into the bottom left corner, leaving Cook Islands’ goalkeeper Vahine Uini without a chance to respond.
Shortly after, Grace Lakavutu extended Fiji’s advantage by skillfully maneuvering past the offside trap to score another goal. This solidified Fiji’s lead as they went into halftime comfortably ahead.
Despite being behind, the Cook Islands improved their performance in the second half, posing several challenges to the young Fijian goalkeeper, who stood firm and effectively managed their attacks. The match concluded with Fiji earning three points, positioning them second in Group A.
