The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Scheme (TSLS) has officially launched five new digital platforms along with a comprehensive framework aimed at streamlining services for sponsored and graduate students in Fiji. The initiative, unveiled during an event last night, is marked by a focus on improving accessibility, efficiency, and convenience for TSLS recipients.

A standout feature of this launch is the Guarantor Clearance QR Code Kiosk System, which will be implemented at Fiji’s international airport. This self-service system targets sponsored students and graduates returning home, allowing them to quickly resolve delays in the delisting of their guarantors. With a simple scan, students can address these issues within minutes, effectively reducing waiting times and eliminating the need for lengthy discussions with authorities.

TSLS Chief Executive Officer Hasmukh Lal expressed optimism regarding the positive impact of the initiative, referring to the system as a permanent solution to a longstanding issue faced by students. In addition to this kiosk, the new Scholarship Data Intelligence Platform has been developed to support policy improvements and enhance data management through automation and artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, the TSLS mobile app will facilitate access to services such as travel and bond clearance, while also serving as a central hub for mentorship and alumni networking. This development addresses gaps in the job market, helping to connect recent graduates with employment opportunities.

Other newly introduced platforms include the Partner Tertiary Education Institution Portal and upgraded Alumni and Employers Connect Portal, which are designed to foster collaboration and connectivity within the educational community. These tools will be available starting next week, further signaling TSLS’s dedication to enhancing the experience of students throughout their academic journey.

In light of the previous challenges regarding travel clearances faced by many students, which have seen an average of 150 being offloaded from flights each month due to non-compliance, the integration of digital solutions is seen as a critical step forward. These initiatives aim not only to ease the burden on students but also to ensure a smoother and more informed transition into the workforce.

With these advancements, TSLS is paving the way for a more efficient educational framework, thereby promoting better outcomes for students and fostering a more dynamic labor market in Fiji. This new approach sets a hopeful tone for the future, underlining the continuous improvements being made within the educational system in response to the needs of students.
