Neharika Gambhir, a former student of Saint Joseph Secondary School, has made history by becoming Fiji’s first female analog astronaut. This remarkable achievement comes after an arduous journey that began when she moved to the United States five years ago, where she worked tirelessly to create a better life for herself despite facing a lack of familial support.

Gambhir currently serves as a Crew Astrobiologist/Data Officer at the Analog Astronaut Training Center in Poland. In her reflections on her journey, she highlights the challenges she encountered, including juggling three jobs while pursuing her dream. Initially focused on becoming a cyber-engineer, she gradually transformed her ambitions, eventually participating in NASA’s L’SPACE Academy and entering a flight test engineering program with IIAS, which paved the way for her astronaut training.

Gambhir’s determination was fueled by a fascination with space that ignited at the tender age of five when she first looked through binoculars at the moon and stars. Despite societal pressures to conform to traditional career paths, she pressed forward, contributing to space exploration and paving the way for future generations.

As the first woman in her field in Fiji, Gambhir faced additional obstacles, including the demands of intensive training and breaking through gender stereotypes in a male-dominated industry. Nevertheless, she emphasizes that each challenge has become an opportunity for growth, empowering her to strengthen her confidence and resolve.

Her message to young women in Fiji is one of inspiration: she urges them to defy norms and pursue their unique dreams. She concluded her interview with a powerful reminder that “the sky is the limit if there are footprints on the moon,” encouraging others to strive for greatness.

Gambhir’s story is not just a personal triumph; it represents a beacon of hope and an invitation for young women everywhere to dream big and break barriers.

Summary: Neharika Gambhir has become Fiji’s first female analog astronaut, overcoming numerous personal and professional challenges to achieve her lifelong dream. Currently working in a male-dominated field, she inspires other young women to pursue their unique ambitions, emphasizing that success knows no gender.
