Tourism Fiji’s 2025 Super Week concluded today, centered on the theme “Veisolisoli for Success: Sharing Knowledge, Building Futures.” The event aimed to arm local tourism operators with valuable insights, tools, and networking opportunities needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving tourism landscape.
Robert Thompson, Executive Director of Regions at Tourism Fiji, opened the week by emphasizing the increasing demand for unique and authentic travel experiences, asserting that Fiji is well-positioned to cater to this growing market. He noted the significant transformation within the tourism landscape, highlighting diverse tourism offerings that extend from land-based excursions to marine activities and village experiences.
The week was filled with workshops focusing on vital aspects such as product development, digital marketing, pricing, sustainability, and trade readiness. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, praised the dedication of the tourism sector in Fiji, stressing that growth must be inclusive to benefit the entire community. He reiterated the importance of human connections in tourism, where the bonds nurtured between tourists and local operators enrich the Fijian experience.
Gavoka also touched on the integration of traditional knowledge into modern tourism practices, indicating that this blend of ancient wisdom serves as a competitive advantage in today’s fast-paced market. This initiative aligns with Fiji’s broader tourism strategy, which currently contributes approximately 40% to the national economy and continues to prioritize sustainable practices among stakeholders in the industry.
In the upcoming week, the Fiji Tourism Exchange is set to take place in Nadi, presenting additional opportunities for tourism operators, leaders, buyers, and media to connect and explore growth avenues.
The focus on sustainability and community involvement reflects a positive trajectory for Fiji’s tourism sector, suggesting that embracing collaboration and traditional practices can lead to robust economic growth while preserving the islands’ natural and cultural heritage. With ongoing support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and a commitment to education, Fiji’s tourism industry appears poised for a hopeful and resilient future.
