Fiji’s tourism sector is witnessing a remarkable growth trajectory, with provisional data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics indicating a notable rise in visitor arrivals. For May 2025, the country welcomed 86,587 tourists, reflecting an increase of 4.4% from May 2024, which recorded 82,901 visitors. The comparison with April 2025 further demonstrates the positive momentum, as arrivals rose by 7.7% from 80,363.

This year’s May figures represent a solid annual growth trend, surpassing last year’s count of 75,147 visitors, thereby showcasing the resilience of Fiji’s tourism industry. Among these visitors, the majority arrived by air—84,250 in total—while 2,337 came by sea, including 1,835 seamen from fishing vessels and 502 yacht travelers.

The primary motivation for visiting remains leisure, with approximately 79.5% of tourists in Fiji for holiday purposes. Additionally, 7.0% sought to connect with friends or relatives, 2.6% traveled for business, and the remaining 10.9% visited for various other reasons.

These increasing numbers come as a welcome relief to the tourism sector, particularly following the decline in visitor arrivals noted in February and March of this year when compared to 2024. The upward trend in May signals a rebound and sustained interest in Fiji as a prime travel destination.

Previously, Fiji reported similar upward trends, such as the increase in visitor numbers for April 2025, where arrivals rebounded significantly by 25.9% compared to the prior month. The robust performance in May reinforces the positive narrative surrounding Fiji’s tourism recovery post-pandemic.

With authorities optimistic about the ongoing recovery, this trajectory suggests continued interest in Fiji, positioning the islands as a preferred destination that promises not only economic benefits but also an enriching cultural exchange.
