Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, has reached out to both local and international tourists, assuring them that the recent incident at the Warrick Resort was an exceptionally isolated case. Gavoka informed the media that the seven guests affected by the incident have been promptly transported to Aspen Lautoka Hospital for thorough medical evaluation and care.

He emphasized that the authorities are actively investigating the incident, with tests and further research being conducted, all under the direct collaboration of the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force. Gavoka reassured everyone that this incident is limited to just these seven guests at a specific bar within the resort.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that there have been no other reported incidents at the resort or anywhere else in Fiji. He highlighted the long-standing successful operation of the Warrick Resort, which is particularly favored among Australian visitors and has earned a solid reputation over the years.

Gavoka mentioned that the management of the Warrick Resort is understandably distressed and is fully cooperating with all relevant authorities during this investigation. While he refrained from speculation on the cause of the illness, he expressed the importance of waiting for the results of ongoing lab tests.

He concluded by emphasizing that Fiji generally offers a safe tourism experience and assured that immediate actions have been taken to determine the cause of the guests’ illnesses.

In a broader context, this incident should not deter potential visitors from enjoying the unique beauty and hospitality that Fiji has to offer. The government’s swift response underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists, ensuring that Fiji remains a desirable travel destination.
