Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka has reassured both local and international visitors to Fiji that the recent health incident at the Warrick Resort is an isolated situation. In a media statement, Gavoka confirmed that all seven affected guests have been moved to Aspen Lautoka Hospital for further medical evaluation and care.
Gavoka indicated that investigations into the incident are ongoing, with full support from the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force. He stressed that this occurrence is limited to those seven individuals at a specific bar within the resort and highlighted that no other incidents have been reported anywhere in Fiji.
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the long-standing reputation of the Warrick Resort, which has successfully welcomed numerous Australian tourists over the years. He noted that resort management is distressed about the situation and is fully cooperating with authorities to address any concerns.
While awaiting lab test results and further inquiries, Gavoka emphasized that Fiji is generally a safe destination for tourists and expressed hope that this incident does not overshadow the positive experiences that visitors typically enjoy in the country.
This incident underscores the importance of health and safety measures in the tourism sector, and it is hopeful that swift action and investigation will reassure travelers about the high standards maintained in Fiji’s hospitality industry. The response also reflects the resilience of the tourism sector, which has weathered challenges in the past, reaffirming that the safety of guests is always a top priority.
