The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, is reaching out to both local and international visitors regarding a recent incident at the Warrick Resort, stating that it is an isolated event. During a media briefing, Gavoka confirmed that all seven guests affected have been transferred to Aspen Lautoka Hospital for thorough medical evaluation and care.
He reassured the public that investigations into the cause of this incident are ongoing, with collaboration from the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force. Gavoka emphasized that this unfortunate situation has only impacted the seven guests at a single bar within the resort, with no similar incidents reported either at the resort or throughout Fiji.
Gavoka noted the longstanding reputation of the Warrick Resort, which has successfully catered to tourists over the years, especially Australians. He expressed that the management of the resort is distressed and genuinely concerned about the well-being of their guests while fully cooperating with authorities during the investigation.
While the exact cause remains undetermined, Gavoka urged the public to remain calm and reiterated that Fiji is typically a safe destination for tourists. He stated the government’s commitment to swiftly addressing the situation to ensure the ongoing safety of all visitors.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations in ensuring guest safety and maintaining the integrity of tourism in Fiji. With supportive actions from both the government and resort officials, there is hope for a swift resolution and a return to normalcy for the resort and its patrons.
