As Tourism Super Week wraps up, the Fijian government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, is heralding the success of its Tour Guide Training Program, designed to cultivate a skilled and professional workforce in the tourism sector.

This initiative gathered industry leaders, aspiring tour guides, and policymakers to provide participants with internationally recognized certifications and practical knowledge. Key focuses included service excellence, cultural integrity, and sustainable tourism—core principles that support Fiji’s ambition to remain a top global destination.

The program aligns closely with the National Development Plan and National Sustainable Tourism Framework and underscores the legal standards outlined in the Tourism Industry Act and Civil Aviation Regulations. It is part of a larger strategy by the government aimed at fostering inclusive economic growth and enhancing resilience within the tourism sector.

Tourism is a vital component of Fiji’s economy, contributing over 40% to the nation’s GDP. By enhancing tour guiding practices and expanding opportunities, particularly for individuals in rural and maritime areas, the government is poised to create jobs, improve livelihoods, and enhance visitor experiences—ultimately increasing tourist spending and supporting small businesses.

The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation remarked on the long-term vision for the industry, stating, “Investing in human capital is investing in Fiji’s future.”

The Tour Guide Training Program is just one among several workforce development initiatives, which also include certifications in hospitality, digital tourism, and eco-tourism, all aimed at building a resilient and competitive tourism sector.

In appreciation, the Ministry extended thanks to all training partners and participants, expressing optimism for continued advancements in strengthening Fiji’s tourism workforce. This sentiment aligns with the optimistic outlook shared during the recent Tourism Super Week, which featured various initiatives and collaborations tailored to support the sustainable growth of tourism in Fiji.

Overall, the commitment to rebuilding and enhancing the tourism sector in Fiji—through education and improved service standards—bodes well for the nation’s economic recovery and the preservation of its unique cultural identity. Such efforts not only promise growth but also ensure that all communities share in the benefits of the thriving tourism industry.
