The Fijian government has increased the budget for its tourism marketing arm, Tourism Fiji, to $48 million for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, up from $44 million in the previous budget. This funding boost highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing Fiji’s competitive position in the global tourism market.

Brent Hill, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Fiji, currently on paternity leave until July 14, discussed how the additional funds will be strategically allocated to enhance marketing activities driven by detailed market analysis. The focus will be on key source markets, especially Australia and North America, where strong growth has been observed, aided by expanded air services from Fiji Airways.

This increased budget will support targeted campaigns designed to attract new audiences and promote Fiji as a desirable stopover destination, particularly during the shoulder seasons, thereby aiming to uplift visitor numbers during traditionally slower periods. Additionally, there is an emphasis on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism segment.

Mr. Hill assured that the organization is committed to a lean operational structure, ensuring that funds are utilized efficiently to maximize returns on investment. The strategy will involve tracking expenses meticulously and focusing on enhancing digital marketing and audience engagement. The aim is to deepen the reach in high-performing markets and diversify offerings that not only attract but also retain visitors for longer stays.

This approach aligns with broader strategic goals aimed at boosting Fiji’s tourism sector to a projected $4 billion economy by 2027, targeting an annual figure of 1.1 million visitors. Furthermore, the optimism in Fiji’s tourism ecosystem reflects previous successes, as there are ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance overall visitor experiences.

Given the global challenges faced by the tourism sector, Fiji’s proactive increase in marketing budget signifies a hopeful commitment to not only recover but thrive in the competitive landscape, ensuring that its unique cultural and natural heritage continues to attract global travelers.
