Tourism Fiji is ramping up its global promotional efforts, running six major campaigns concurrently in Australia. Chief Executive Brent Hill reported that these initiatives successfully generated over 10,000 room nights for a single hotel, demonstrating a strong interest in Fiji as a travel destination. Hill is optimistic about the future of the tourism sector, highlighting that a luxury hotel with over 300 rooms is set to open soon, alongside more than 2,200 additional rooms currently under development across 16 projects.
Hill also noted significant growth in the micro, small, and medium enterprise tourism segment, with more local operators offering diverse experiences such as hiking, biking, culinary, and cultural tours. Last year, Fiji welcomed nearly one million air arrivals and over 80,000 cruise passengers, further underscoring the country’s robust tourism appeal.
In an effort to sustain this momentum, Hill emphasized the necessity of continued investment in infrastructure, which is crucial for maintaining Fiji’s reputation as a world-class destination. In parallel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica outlined various reforms to boost investor confidence, including streamlined business registration, online approval systems, and the establishment of special economic zones aimed at enhancing tourism, clean energy, and the technology sectors. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a resilient economy supported by digital innovation, sustainable agricultural practices, and the empowerment of indigenous communities.
This concerted effort reflects a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s tourism sector, building on previous successes and aiming for sustained growth in the coming years. The strong collaboration between government initiatives and the tourism industry creates a positive environment for attracting more visitors and enriching the local economy.
