Fiji welcomed an impressive 1.06 million tourists in 2024, a significant boost for its tourism sector, according to Brent Hill, the chief executive officer of Tourism Fiji. Among these visitors, over 80,000 arrived via cruise ships, highlighting the importance of maritime tourism to the nation’s economy.

In a recent social media update, Mr. Hill noted that the cruise passengers joined the more than 980,000 travelers who flew into Fiji, showcasing the country’s appeal as a prime tourist destination. “We will have welcomed 1.06 million tourists – a huge effort and fantastic for our visitor economy,” he stated, reflecting on the great strides made in attracting visitors.

The year 2025 has also started on a positive note for Fiji’s tourism, with the peak cruising season underway. Recently, notable cruise liners like the Crown Princess and MS Europa docked in Fiji, bringing over 5,000 passengers who are set to explore the beautiful islands and engage in local experiences.

Mr. Hill emphasized the collective effort of various organizations and individuals in ensuring that visitors have a safe and enjoyable stay in Fiji. He pointed out that these cruise tourists contribute significantly to the local economy through shore excursions, tours, and shopping, benefiting numerous tourism-based businesses across the islands.

This tourism surge not only enhances Fiji’s economy but also fosters connections between visitors and the local culture, providing a hopeful outlook for the future of the industry. As Fiji continues to attract tourists, the ongoing commitment to hospitality and service excellence will be key to sustaining this momentum.

Overall, the positive trends in Fiji’s tourism spotlight the potential for growth and prosperity in the coming years, fostering optimism among local businesses and communities.
