Fiji’s Tourism Boom: New Hilton Hotel Signals Economic Growth

The tourism industry continues to be a crucial component of Fiji’s economy, significantly impacting the growth of gross domestic product and increasing job opportunities, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad.

He made these remarks during the launch of the initial phase of the $75 million Hilton Garden Inn Hotel construction project in Suva. Prasad noted that while efforts are being made to diversify the economy, tourism will remain a key contributor in the foreseeable future.

The addition of the Hilton Garden Inn to Fiji’s hospitality sector is expected to enhance the tourism infrastructure even further. Prasad expressed gratitude to the Carpenters Group and all stakeholders involved in the project, highlighting their long-standing presence in the country for over 156 years as a testament to their commitment and vision.

Additionally, he mentioned the diverse businesses under the Carpenters Group, which include supermarkets, finance services, and shipping operations.

Investment Fiji’s CEO Kamal Chetty commented that the new development would help alleviate the accommodation shortage in Suva. He emphasized the significance of adding more hotel rooms to cater to business travelers and acknowledged the project as a sign of growing confidence in the economy, as it has been in planning for some time.
