The FIJI Water Flying Fijians delivered an impressive second-half performance to secure a 33-19 victory over Spain in their third match of the Autumn Nations Series this morning.
The match began with Spain showing resilience, leading 10-7 at halftime after earning a penalty try. Flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez contributed with a penalty kick, while Fiji’s Ponipate Loganimasi scored a try, successfully converted by Caleb Muntz.
However, Spain increased their advantage in the second half, with Lopez successfully kicking three penalty goals, bringing their lead to 19-7 early in the second half.
Fiji finally ignited their comeback in the 54th minute when Sireli Maqala crossed the try line, rejuvenating the team’s spirits. Hooker Sam Matavesi followed suit with a try in the 59th minute, and just four minutes later, Captain Waisea Nayacalevu added another. Debutant Setareki Turagacoke capped off an extraordinary second half with a try in the 69th minute, with Muntz converting three times throughout the match.
Now, Coach Mick Byrne’s squad is gearing up for their final test of the season against Ireland, scheduled for next Sunday at 3:10 AM at Aviva Stadium.
