The Textile Clothing and Footwear Council of Fiji (TCF Council) is gearing up to send representatives to the upcoming Australia International Sourcing Fair (AISF) this month, marking an exciting return for Fiji post-COVID. This exhibition holds significant importance as Fiji re-establishes itself as a vital regional sourcing hub catering to Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.
This initiative ties back to the ‘Make it in Fiji’ campaign launched over a decade ago with support from AusAID, which revitalized the once-struggling textile industry. The TCF Council highlights that Fiji’s manufacturers have successfully produced iconic products for international markets, including those in America, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.
Fiji stands out in comparison to larger manufacturing nations like China, Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam by prioritizing flexibility, quality, and smaller production runs. The industry is characterized by a positive “can do” attitude, along with a storied commitment to social and corporate responsibility.
With the ability to deliver shorter, custom production runs and a reputation for exceptional customer service—bolstered by English-speaking staff—Fiji’s manufacturers are gaining recognition. Confirmed participants at the AISF include Danam (Fiji) Pte Ltd, Nagsun Apparel Fiji Ltd, and United Apparel (Fiji) Pte Ltd.
The event is set to take place at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in South Bank, Victoria, from November 19 to 21. This year’s participation not only represents a critical step toward recovery for Fiji’s textile industry but also showcases the country’s potential for growth in the international market.
Overall, this is a hopeful indication of resilience and adaptability, as Fiji’s textile sector looks to regain momentum and strengthen its global presence.
