The Telecommunications Authority of Fiji (TAF) recently achieved a significant milestone by launching its inaugural five-Year Strategic Plan for 2025-2029 at an event held at Tanoa Plaza in Suva. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, who emphasized the strategic plan’s four main pillars: Regulatory Effectiveness, Service Delivery, Advocacy, and Financial Sustainability. Additionally, the plan is reinforced by strategic enablers that focus on People and Governance, Processes, and Technology.

The overarching goal of this strategic initiative is to close the digital gap, invigorate innovation, and strengthen Fiji’s status as the ICT hub of the Pacific. During the launch, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted TAF’s commitment to bolstering the telecommunications sector and articulated a vision of a digitally connected Fiji, ensuring that every citizen has equal access to technology and opportunities.

“The plan’s emphasis on regulatory excellence, enhanced service delivery, advocacy for community needs, and financial sustainability showcases TAF’s alignment with the government’s goal of a digitally inclusive and empowered Fiji,” he stated. He expressed confidence in TAF’s ability to work effectively with key stakeholders for the successful execution of the plan.

David Eyre, TAF’s chairman, remarked on the organization’s brave steps toward a digitally inclusive future, anticipating transformative changes for Fiji and the Pacific region. He noted that with stakeholder support, TAF aims to translate aspirations into tangible benefits for the citizens of Fiji.

Prit Chand, TAF’s CEO, affirmed that the strategic plan provides a clear and actionable roadmap for revolutionizing Fiji’s telecommunications sector. It encapsulates the vision for a digitally connected Fiji and ensures that all decisions are aligned with long-term objectives, enabling effective resource management, innovation embrace, and responsiveness to emerging challenges.

This strategic plan marks a hopeful beginning for Fiji, as it strives for a more connected and inclusive future, with the potential to uplift its citizens and drive the nation’s development in the digital realm.
