Over 100 golfers participated in the Annual Telecom Charity Golf Tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Suva, contributing to a commendable effort to raise awareness for men’s reproductive health. Organized by the Fiji Cancer Society in collaboration with Pirates Golf, this year’s tournament marked its fourth edition and brought together members and corporate teams to support a vital cause.
Viliame Leqa, a trustee at the Fiji Golf Club, praised the turnout, stating, “The tournament has been great; it’s been very encouraging to see the members come out in full force to support the event.” The collaboration aimed to increase awareness surrounding prostate, testicular, and other cancers affecting men, underscoring the importance of health initiatives in recognizing early signs and symptoms.
As part of the health outreach, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services provided free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests for men aged 50 and older, emphasizing the critical role early detection plays in combating these diseases. This initiative is timely, coinciding with global efforts focused on men’s health.
Leqa further noted the club’s commitment to charity work, stating, “What we’re doing is an annual event. This club is supportive of charitable organizations that seek our support.” The participants included various golf clubs and corporate teams that extended their support to the cause, illustrating the community’s dedication to health awareness initiatives.
Despite weather conditions being overcast, early morning showers lifted, allowing for favorable playing conditions as the tournament kicked off. This annual golfing event has become a pillar in promoting health awareness and demonstrates the spirit of goodwill and collaboration among the community focused on creating a healthier future.
