Bhaveekesh Reddy, a 19-year-old Agriculture Science student at the Fiji National University, is charting a unique course amid rising drug-related issues faced by many youth. At just 16, Reddy began his journey with Nithyananda Farms Fiji, demonstrating commitment and vision from a young age.
By wisely reinvesting his study allowances into agricultural initiatives, Reddy has transformed his school-age ambition into a thriving business that motivates young individuals towards financial independence and entrepreneurship in agriculture. Nithyananda Farms specializes in the sale of vegetable and agroforestry seedlings, and Reddy has ambitious plans to broaden the farm’s scope. His future projects include hydroponics, aeroponics, cocopeat production, and sustainable farm-to-table practices.
“We are currently focused on wholesale vegetable seedlings and agroforestry seedlings, but we are determined to expand our production lines over time,” Reddy shared. “We aim to explore more innovations, adopt sustainable practices, and embrace creativity as we move forward. Each lesson learned is applied to enhance farming methods and contribute to a better future.”
Assistant Minister for Commerce Sachinda Nand highlighted the significance of local businesses and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in job creation and economic development. He emphasized that these entities are expected to play a pivotal role in driving Fiji’s economic growth, aiming for a contribution of at least 40% to the country’s GDP by 2030, underscoring the government’s dedication to fostering MSMEs.
Reddy’s initiative not only embodies the spirit of entrepreneurial ambition but also serves as a beacon of hope for other young people. His commitment to agriculture encourages a path toward economic stability and a brighter future, showcasing that with creativity and perseverance, youth can overcome challenges and thrive.
