The Ministry of Education has announced the revival of interviews for Year 13 students interested in pursuing careers in teaching. This initiative, developed in partnership with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), and the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), aims to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the value of a thorough selection process to draw in passionate and qualified individuals to the teaching field. This effort aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which seeks to bolster collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in classrooms nationwide.
Students eligible for scholarships can apply under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which cover various Bachelor of Education programs, including specializations in Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts. The deadline for online applications to the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) is set for January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified of their interview dates and locations via email and phone.
This decision marks a significant step towards enhancing the teaching profession in Fiji, ensuring that both educators and students can benefit from a more effective training framework. With the right candidates entering this vital field, the quality of education in Fiji is poised for improvement, ultimately benefiting the future generation.
