The Ministry of Education has announced plans to reintroduce interviews for Year 13 students who wish to pursue a career in teaching. This initiative, carried out in partnership with various educational bodies, including Teacher Training Institutions, the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority, the Higher Education Commission Fiji, and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service, seeks to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted that a thorough selection process is vital for attracting qualified individuals passionate about teaching. This move aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which focuses on fostering robust collaborations among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education.

The declaration aims to ensure that graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to succeed in their teaching careers across the nation. Eligible students can apply for scholarships through the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which includes a range of Bachelor of Education programs, as well as specialized fields such as Early Childhood Education, Counseling, and Industrial Arts.

Students interested in applying must submit their online applications to the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service by January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will receive notifications about their interview dates and locations via email and phone.

This initiative not only underscores the significance of quality education in Fiji but also aims to nurture the next generation of educators, who will be well-equipped to inspire and guide future students. By reinforcing these key selection processes, the Ministry of Education is taking meaningful steps towards improving educational standards and fostering a passionate teaching workforce.
