The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, announced that the financial support for the qualification upgrades of 395 teachers will be dispensed in two phases: 50 percent before Christmas and the remaining portion in January. This announcement was made during the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau.
Minister Radrodro expressed the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting educators and ensuring that teachers receive the benefits entitled to them this year, under the congress theme “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow.” Alongside the qualification upgrades, he emphasized other financial incentives such as location allowances and the regularization of posts.
In a further recognition of leadership roles, Mr. Radrodro revealed that 103 assistant principals will be receiving a step-up in their positions to differentiate them from heads of departments. He underscored the importance of these incentives in valuing teachers, stating that they are essential for retaining skilled professionals within Fiji’s education sector.
Furthermore, the Minister acknowledged the significant impact educators have beyond classroom walls and urged for meaningful collaboration among school heads to enhance the educational framework. He encouraged sharing best practices and fostering unity to better prepare students for future challenges.
Radrodro conveyed optimism that the congress would serve as a platform for educators to unite, share experiences, and innovate for the betterment of educational experiences for students.
This commitment to enhancing the educational landscape and improving teacher support is a hopeful sign for the future of education in Fiji. As collaboration and recognition increase among educators, there is potential for substantial progress that benefits both teachers and students alike.
