Fiji’s Teachers Set for Pay Boost: What’s Next?

The government will issue payments for qualification upgrades benefiting 395 teachers in two installments: half before Christmas and the remainder in January, as confirmed by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro. This announcement was made during the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau.

Under the congress theme, “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” Mr. Radrodro reiterated the government’s dedication to educators. He assured attendees that they would receive not only their qualification upgrade payments but also location allowances, step-ups, and regularization of posts.

In addition, he announced a notable advancement for 103 assistant principals who will receive a step-up in recognition of their roles, distinguishing them from heads of departments. Mr. Radrodro emphasized the importance of these incentives in valuing teachers’ contributions and maintaining their expertise within the Fijian education system, expressing a strong need for educators to remain in the country for the sake of students’ learning and development.

The minister acknowledged the significant influence heads of schools have, stating, “Your impact reverberates far beyond the walls of our schools.” He encouraged collaboration among educational professionals, underscoring the importance of sharing best practices and fostering unity to enhance the educational journey for students.
