The government is set to disburse payments for qualification upgrades to 395 teachers in two segments, with 50% to be paid before Christmas and the remainder due in January, according to Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education. During the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Radrodro emphasized the government’s commitment to educator support and the importance of acknowledging their contributions.
Under the congress theme “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” Radrodro reiterated that teachers will also receive location allowances, step-ups, and regularization of posts in addition to their qualification upgrade payments. Notably, he announced that 103 assistant principals would receive a step-up to differentiate them from heads of departments.
Radrodro asserted that these incentives are vital for recognizing the dedication of teachers in Fiji, aiming to retain their professional skills for the betterment of the education sector and to enhance student learning. He acknowledged the significant impact of school heads, reinforcing that their efforts extend well beyond the classroom.
As the congress progressed, Mr. Radrodro emphasized the need for collaborative engagement among educators, promoting the sharing of best practices and fostering an environment conducive to uplifting the teaching profession. He expressed hopes that the forum would promote unity among educators and equip them with the tools necessary to prepare students for future challenges.
Through collaboration and shared learning, the congress aims to build a strong community committed to driving positive change in education.
This initiative highlights the government’s proactive approach to educational reform and the recognition of teachers’ invaluable contributions, fostering an optimistic outlook for the future of education in Fiji.
