Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, has emphasized the country’s advantageous location in the Pacific, positioning it as a key trading hub for re-exporting goods to nearby island nations including Tonga, Samoa, and Vanuatu. At the launch of FMF’s Finest Premium Ceylon tea in Suva, he expressed hope that this initiative could lead to increased export opportunities and boost employment.

Kamikamica highlighted FMF’s broad distribution network, which is expected to facilitate the expansion of this new tea product into the larger Pacific market. He suggested that such expansions could not only contribute to the growth of the company but also enhance job creation, increase foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen Fiji’s trade relations with its Pacific neighbors.

In addition to the tea launch, the introduction of FMF’s herbal tea products underscores Fiji’s commitment to public health and well-being. These products, which include health-promoting ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and green tea, aim to encourage healthier lifestyle choices, thus supporting a broader initiative to boost the resilience of local industries.

Kamikamica recently spoke about the growing potential of Fiji’s kava industry, reflecting the government’s intention to diversify exports and lessen dependence on tourism. Strengthening regional and international trade agreements remains a critical element of the government’s strategy to position Fiji as a leader in food and beverage exports in the Pacific.

Fiji’s strategic focus on its tea and kava sectors signals a promising route toward greater economic growth, potential job creation, and a strong commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of local communities. By embracing agricultural innovation and maintaining high-quality standards, Fiji is on its way to significantly increasing its export capabilities and fostering sustainable development.
