Fiji’s national swimming representatives participated in a competitive event yesterday, showcasing their skills at the Fiji Aquatics Age Group Nationals held in Suva. This event served as the final meet before the Pacific Mini Games in Palau at the end of this month. Notable swimmers like Hansel McCaig, Imelda Smith, Marseleima Moss, and Livai Raviko competed on behalf of their clubs during the two-day competition at the Damodar City National Aquatic Centre.
Willie Elaisa, head coach of the national swim team, expressed satisfaction with the swimmers’ agility and performance, stating, “This is our last meet before we go, and seeing most of our swimmers swimming their fastest here is encouraging. We just have a few weeks to fine-tune before we leave.” His comments echo sentiments from recent trials where swimmers exhibited impressive times and a strong focus on individual races in preparation for regional competition.
As anticipation builds for the Pacific Mini Games, taking place from June 29 to July 9 in Koror, Palau, Team Fiji’s final assembly will occur in Suva on Saturday. Subsequently, athletes will depart for Palau on June 27. The swim team comprises 16 athletes along with two reserves, demonstrating the collective spirit and dedication that Fiji’s swimming community embodies as they aim for success in the upcoming games.
In a similar vein, past articles have highlighted the tremendous commitment and progress among Fiji’s swimmers, especially leading up to the final trials. The support from various stakeholders and the national federation has been crucial, facilitating a focused environment for the athletes to concentrate on their training. This collaborative effort reflects the community’s hope for a strong performance at the Mini Games, providing an exciting platform for these young athletes to showcase their talents on a larger stage.
Team Fiji’s swimming roster includes Vivita Bai, Thaddeus Kwong, Theola Kwong, and many more. The atmosphere around the upcoming Mini Games is filled with optimism, as the execution of numerous events showcases not only athletic prowess but also the cultural pride inherent to Fiji’s representational efforts on the international sports scene.
