FIJI Ports Terminal Limited is poised for a bustling start to the New Year, with plans to welcome a total of 43 ships to Suva port throughout January. Among the vessels expected to dock, container ships will lead the charge, with 25 scheduled visits anticipated this month.
Adding to the excitement, the port will host five cruise ships—Discovery Princess, Costa Deliziosa, Riviera, Noordam, and Zaandam—bringing both tourists and revenue to the Capital City. The presence of these vessels is expected to boost local businesses and enhance the tourism experience in Fiji.
In addition to the cruise liners, a mix of different types of ships will also be making their way to the port this month. This includes one cable ship, one cargo ship, one clinker, three tankers, and two research vessels, showcasing the diverse maritime activity expected.
This week, the port will welcome a variety of vessels, including the car carrier Lake Travis, research vessel MV Anuanua Moana, and several container ships such as Neptune Matua, Southern Pearl, Medkon Ten, Kota Hapas, and Majuro Chief, along with the tanker Hafnia Merlin. The arrival of notable research vessels, the Chinese ships Yuan Wang 5, which docked on Monday, and Yuan Wang 6, expected on January 9, highlight the ongoing global investment in research and development in the region.
Overall, the anticipated influx of ships promises to invigorate the local economy while fostering connections with international partners and enhancing Fiji’s status as a key regional maritime hub.
