The 2024 Corona Fiji Pro has made a successful return after a seven-year gap, with the event held from August 20 to August 29, 2024, at Cloudbreak—an iconic spot located just south of Namotu Island in the Mamanucas. This year’s event featured 36 surfers from 12 countries, highlighting Fiji’s importance in the global surfing scene and its commitment to hosting significant international competitions.
During the recent Cabinet meeting on July 22, 2025, members were updated on the outcomes and successes of the event, which marked the reinstatement of a tournament that had not been held since 2017. The Cabinet recognized the significant impact of such events on tourism and the local economy, encouraging the future presence of globally recognized events in Fiji.
The 2024 Corona Fiji Pro also set the stage for the second installment of this three-year partnership between Fiji and the World Surf League (WSL). The event will once again be overseen by a dedicated Steering Committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation, ensuring its proper management and success.
In related news, the Fiji Spartan Event, originally planned for this year, has been rescheduled for next year, due to necessary updates related to international collaboration and the Spartan calendar.
The success of the Corona Fiji Pro not only revitalizes Fiji’s standing in the competitive surfing landscape but also signals a hopeful surge in tourism and local business partnerships, reaffirming Fiji’s status as a premier surfing destination.
Fiji’s leadership and the surfing community’s enthusiasm reflect the country’s deep-rooted culture in surfing, and as a result, many anticipate a bright future for the sport and its associated events in the region.
