The Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) Loyalty Program recently achieved a notable milestone by securing affordable healthcare services for sugarcane farmers in Fiji. Launched through a partnership with Oceania Hospitals Pte Ltd by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, the program provides significant medical benefits to cardholders.
Farmers enrolled in the SCGF Loyalty Program will enjoy a 10% discount on various medical services, along with reduced consultation fees of $10—down from the typical rate of $17.50. Additionally, dialysis treatments will match the government’s subsidized rate at $180, translating into savings of up to $50 per session.
Professor Prasad highlighted the importance of the SCGF, which serves over 10,260 growers, by emphasizing that the initiative rewards hardworking farmers via partnerships with essential service providers. Since its inception in December, the program has garnered more than 640 registered participants. Oceania Hospitals marks the 13th partner to join the initiative, with five more companies expected to sign on shortly.
This development aligns with the government’s broader strategy to modernize healthcare infrastructure in Fiji, which includes the construction of a new 100-bed super-speciality hospital funded by the Indian government. With plans to extend services to more regions, including Labasa, the SCGF Loyalty Program aims not just to support healthcare access but also to promote sustainable agricultural practices and community health.
In summary, the SCGF Loyalty Program represents a significant leap towards better healthcare accessibility for sugarcane farmers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for this vital sector. By fostering strong cooperation with healthcare providers, Fiji is paving the way for a promising future where farmers can lead healthier, more fulfilled lives while continuing to contribute to the nation’s economy.
