The FIJI Water Flying Fijians delivered a remarkable performance in the second half to secure a 33-19 victory over Spain in their third match of the Autumn Nations Series. The game saw the hosts, Spain, take an early lead, finishing the first half 10-7, thanks to a penalty try and a penalty kick from flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez, while Fiji’s Ponipate Loganimasi scored and Caleb Muntz converted.

Spain increased their advantage at the start of the second half, with Lopez successfully kicking three penalties, putting them ahead 19-7. However, Fiji regrouped and sparked a comeback in the 54th minute, with Sireli Maqala scoring, which initiated a shift in momentum.

Subsequently, hooker Sam Matavesi scored Fiji’s second try in the 59th minute, followed by captain Waisea Nayacalevu adding another just four minutes later. Debutant Setareki Turagacoke capped off Fiji’s impressive comeback with a try in the 69th minute, complemented by Muntz’s successful goal kicks on three occasions.

Looking ahead, the Mick Byrne-coached team is set to focus on their final test match of the season against Ireland, scheduled for next Sunday at the Aviva Stadium, promising to build on their successful performance.
