Fiji’s rugby sevens team made a remarkable comeback in their opening Pool C match of the Vancouver 7s, triumphing over Uruguay with a score of 38-12 at BC Place Stadium. This victory serves as a redemption, considering they suffered a defeat against Uruguay at the Perth 7s last month. The match began with Uruguay taking an early lead, scoring two quick tries to establish a 12-0 advantage.

However, the dynamic of the game shifted when Waisea Nacuqu returned to the field after receiving a yellow card. Terio Veilawa sparked Fiji’s comeback with a try in the sixth minute, followed shortly by another try from Sevuloni Mocenacagi before halftime. With Veilawa successfully converting one of these tries, the score at halftime was equal at 12-12.

In the second half, Fiji displayed an outstanding offensive performance, scoring four more tries from Joji Nasova, Joseva Talacolo, Filipe Sauturaga, and Sakiusa Siqila. Veilawa added two more conversions to his tally, making it three successful conversions overall, and Siqila contributed one more.

This win not only marks Fiji’s recovery from their previous encounter with Uruguay, but it also acts as a crucial stepping stone as they prepare for their next match against the USA, scheduled for 12:45pm. The team’s ability to respond positively after setbacks demonstrates their resilience and strength, providing a hopeful outlook for fans who are eager to see their continued success in the tournament.

With Fiji looking to build on this momentum, there is a sense of excitement surrounding their upcoming games, as they aim to showcase their elite skills and determination throughout the Vancouver 7s.
