Team Fiji has made a strong impression at the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, where swimmers Kelera Mudunasoko and Samuel Yalimaiwai have both achieved remarkable results. Kelera Mudunasoko, acting as Team Fiji’s flagbearer, secured her second gold medal in the women’s 100 meters breaststroke final, setting a new national record with a time of 1:12.01. Just prior to this, she also claimed her first gold by finishing first in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 32.62 seconds, also a national record.
Samuel Yalimaiwai replicated Mudunasoko’s success, bringing home his second gold medal after finishing first in the men’s 100m breaststroke final. Earlier, he had also set a national record in the men’s 50 meters breaststroke event, clocking a time of 27.74 seconds.
In addition to swimming, Team Fiji garnered another gold medal in the Va’a category, where Elenoa Vateitei excelled in the V1 16km marathon. Other achievements included Tolu Young taking home silver in the men’s 50m butterfly event, and Hansel McCaig earning bronze in the same race, while Don Younger secured bronze in the men’s 100m breaststroke final.
