Weightlifting Fiji’s Miriama Taletawa has made history by clinching the Sportswoman of the Year award for the second consecutive year at the 2024 Fiji Sports Awards. This accolade recognizes her exceptional leadership and performance in weightlifting, especially after earning a bronze and silver medal at the recent Oceania Weightlifting Championships in New Zealand. Last year, she showcased her skill by taking home a silver medal in the 76kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in Suva.

Alongside Taletawa, Selestino Ravutaumada from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua also received prestigious honors, being named Sportsman of the Year for his remarkable contributions to rugby. His achievements include representing Fiji in the men’s 7s team and securing a silver medal at the Paris Olympics last year.

The awards ceremony also highlighted the rising stars of Weightlifting Fiji, as Mereia Turaganivalu and Nehemiah Elder were awarded the Young Female and Male Athlete of the Year titles, respectively. This emphasizes the organization’s dedication to developing youth talent within the sport.

The 2024 Fiji Sports Awards celebrated the accomplishments of local athletes, serving as a source of inspiration and proving that dedication and hard work can lead to remarkable achievements.
