The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta came to a thrilling conclusion yesterday, featuring the demanding 10km super and the exhilarating 5km sprint obstacle races held at Aviva Farms in Sabeto.

The event attracted hundreds of participants, including experienced athletes from across the globe, beginners, and local teams, all competing amidst the breathtaking views of the Garden of Sleeping Giant’s majestic peaks and lush forests. David Dewar, who tackled the Spartan Super 10km, praised the event, stating, “It was an excellent event… the 10km was pretty grueling, but the support from the crowd was fantastic. Kudos to the organizers and sponsors for an epic occasion in such a stunning location.”

First-time participant Susannah Hodson joined the 5km sprint alongside friends and family. She reflected on her experience, saying, “This was my first Spartan race, and it was a great chance for the whole family to get involved. The kids loved the kid’s race, and I found the 5km tough, but it’s a fantastic sense of achievement at the end.”

In a separate note, Fiji’s champion boxer and ambassador Winston Hill faced challenges leading up to the race due to a hand injury sustained in his last boxing match. Despite this setback, he still participated in the 10km and 5km races, stating, “I had a broken hand in the last fight… I managed to bypass some obstacles and just focused on having fun.”

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed enthusiasm about the event, which kicked off with a 10k night race, emphasizing its appeal to athletes and families worldwide. Last year, the event contributed over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy, and Hill expressed confidence that this year’s impact would be just as significant while promoting physical fitness, fun for all ages, and showcasing the beauty of Fiji.

The conclusion of this event not only highlights the growing popularity of obstacle racing but also serves to bolster Fiji’s economy and tourism sector, making it a positive and encouraging narrative for the future of sporting events in the region.

Summary: The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta successfully concluded with hundreds of participants in the 10km and 5km obstacle races amid stunning scenery. Despite challenges, including a setback for champion boxer Winston Hill, the event continued to inspire athletes, contribute to the economy, and promote physical fitness in a picturesque setting.
