The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta wrapped up yesterday, featuring thrilling 10km super and 5km sprint obstacle races held at Aviva Farms in Sabeto. The event drew hundreds of participants, including both experienced Spartan racers and newcomers, all taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Garden of Sleeping Giant, surrounded by majestic peaks and verdant forests.

David Dewar, who completed the grueling 10km Spartan Super, praised the event, stating, “It was an excellent event. The course was challenging, but the support from the crowd was fantastic. Kudos to the organizers, Tourism Fiji, and sponsors for hosting such an epic event in this gorgeous locale.”

First-time racer Susannah Hodson participated in the 5km Sprint alongside friends and expressed enthusiasm for the family-friendly atmosphere. “This was my first Spartan race, and it was a fantastic opportunity to involve the whole family. The kids enjoyed their race, and while the 5km was tough, it brought a great sense of accomplishment at the end,” she noted.

Fiji’s champion boxer and ambassador, Winston Hill, faced a personal challenge as he recovered from a hand injury sustained in a recent bout. Though unable to fully participate due to his condition, he still joined the open division races for both distances, focusing on enjoying the experience despite bypassing some obstacles. “I still competed in the 10km and 5km, and I had fun,” he shared.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed excitement about the event, highlighting the participation of athletes and families from around the globe. “The Spartan Fiji Trifecta kicked off with the exhilarating 10km night race, and we’re thrilled for the weekend ahead,” he said. The event is expected to have a significant economic impact, similar to last year’s contribution of over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy. Brent added, “We are optimistic that this year will have equal or greater output, promoting fitness and fun for all ages while showcasing Fiji’s stunning landscapes.”

This event not only encourages physical fitness but also serves as a celebration of community and resilience in the face of individual challenges, reminding us all of the power of perseverance and the joy of shared experiences.

As this exciting event concludes, it highlights the importance of health, community engagement, and the beauty of Fiji, offering a hopeful glimpse into the future of sports tourism in the region.
