The final day of the 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship saw enthusiastic participation from local athletes in both the 10km and 5km races at the Aviva Racecourse in Nadi. Bimal Sudharkar, the general manager of risk at the Fiji Development Bank and a Suva resident, reflected on the event as a significant moment of personal growth.
“This is my second year participating,” Sudharkar shared. “Last year, I completed the 5km race for my 46th birthday, and it was a transformative experience. The joy of these activities lies not in competition, but in personal achievement.” He emphasized the mental benefits of the race, stating that the physical challenges allow participants to appreciate the stunning beauty of Fiji.
Sudharkar expressed his commitment to continuing this journey, noting that he completed the 10km this year and is aiming for the 21km race next year.
Robert Camilleri, managing director for Spartan Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia, also praised the event. He expressed excitement about the partnership with Tourism Fiji and the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, declaring, “Fiji is a beautiful country. This year has seen an increase in local participation, which is encouraging.”
Camilleri pointed out that the top 10 finishers from the Fiji Spartan APAC Championship will have the opportunity to qualify for the prestigious 2024 Abu Dhabi Spartan Beast World Championship later this year.
In summary, the Fiji Spartan APAC Championship was not just a competitive event, but a celebration of personal growth, community spirit, and the beauty of Fiji. Such initiatives foster a culture of fitness and wellness, inspiring more locals to engage in active lifestyles. As participants continue to embrace these challenges, the unity and motivation they foster within the community are sure to lead to more successful and vibrant events in the future.
