The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta has successfully wrapped up with thrilling 10km super and 5km sprint obstacle races taking place at Aviva Farms, Sabeto. The picturesque event was set against the backdrop of the stunning Garden of Sleeping Giants, surrounded by impressive peaks and lush forests, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic participants from across the globe.
Among the runners were experienced athletes, newcomers trying their hand for the first time, and local teams. David Dewar, who completed the 10km Spartan Super, praised the event, stating, “It was an excellent event. The 10km was pretty gruelling, but it was great to have the support of so many people along the course. Well done to the organizers and Tourism Fiji and sponsors for putting on an epic event in such a stunning location.”
Susannah Hodson, who participated in the 5km sprint alongside friends, shared her experience as a first-time racer. “This was my first Spartan race, and it was a great chance to get the whole family involved. The kids loved the kid’s race, and I found the 5km quite challenging, but it gave a great sense of achievement at the end,” she reflected.
In a contrasting narrative, Fiji’s champion boxer and ambassador Winston Hill faced challenges leading up to the event due to a lingering hand injury from a recent bout. Despite not being able to fully compete due to his condition, he completed the 10km and 5km races, stating, “I did bypass some obstacles but was able to run and have fun.”
Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement about the event, noting that the Spartan Fiji Trifecta had begun with a 10km night race, drawing athletes and their families from across the globe. The event contributed over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy last year, and there is optimism that this year’s event will have a similar, if not greater, economic impact while promoting physical fitness and adventure tourism.
This event not only highlights Fiji’s beautiful landscapes but also fosters a strong sense of community and athletic spirit. As seen through the enthusiastic participation and support from local and international participants alike, the Fiji Spartan Championship serves as a beacon of unity and a celebration of determination and resilience, encouraging people of all ages to embrace physical fitness.
Summary: The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship concluded with successful 10km super and 5km sprint races, attracting hundreds of participants amidst breathtaking scenery. Participants included seasoned racers and first-timers, all celebrating their achievements. Despite injuries, athletes like Winston Hill showcased resilience. With significant economic impact anticipated, the event continues to promote fitness and display Fiji’s natural beauty.
