Fiji’s Solar Future: Pioneering Clean Energy at Nadi Airport

Fiji Airports has officially contracted ITP Renewables Australia to initiate the first phase of the solar farm project at Nadi International Airport. Chief Executive Mesake Nawari emphasized that this partnership marks a significant advancement for the solar farm initiative.

The contract entails consultancy services to facilitate the design of the solar farm at Nadi International Airport. Nawari highlighted the aim to reduce energy expenditures and establish Fiji as a leader in the aviation sector both locally and regionally by generating 3.5 megawatts of renewable energy on-site.

This project is also a step towards achieving global green airport accreditation under the Airport Council International’s initiative, aligning with Fiji Airports’ commitment to environmental sustainability and a net zero target by 2050.

Nawari expressed enthusiasm about the transformation of the solar farm from a vision into reality, asserting that their dedication to eliminating carbon emissions positions them as a pioneering airport in the global effort for sustainability. He conveyed excitement about partnering with ITP Renewables Australia, which specializes in renewable energy consulting across Australia and Oceania, and is set to bring expertise to the aviation industry’s energy strategies.
