Nine small and medium business owners were honored with the 2023 FDB National Small and Medium Enterprise Awards in recognition of their resilience, innovation, and significant contributions to Fiji’s economic development. The award-winning businesses span various sectors, including poultry farming, upcycling, forest park tours, and kava export.
Damend Gounder, chairperson of the Fiji Development Bank board, highlighted the remarkable evolution of these small businesses, which have navigated an era of unprecedented technological advancement alongside rising challenges. He noted that despite these obstacles, these businesses have continued to evolve, embracing inclusivity and promoting sustainable practices.
President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the chief guest, praised the critical role of SMEs in enhancing economic well-being at the community level. He acknowledged the resilience and adaptability of National Small and Medium Enterprises, emphasizing their successful embrace of innovation and digital transformation.
Debra Sadranu, the overall winner and founder of Essence Group Fiji Ltd, which specializes in manufacturing and distributing nama skincare products, expressed her gratitude for the recognition of her team’s hard work and dedication. She credited her team, particularly the women harvesters in Yasawa, and the exceptional resources from Fiji that contribute to their product range.
