Eight members of the national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at next week’s McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. This selection process was overseen by head coach Osea Kolinisau.
The selected Fiji players include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will be joined by notable rugby talents such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, USA’s Matai Leuta, and Rosko Specman.
According to tournament organizing committee chairman Jay Whyte, the Mike Friday Select 7s team represents an exciting new addition to the tournament lineup. “Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France will also be part of Friday’s team, making it a truly world-class event in Fiji,” he mentioned.
The eight players will look to leverage this tournament as an opportunity to secure a spot in the men’s squad for the upcoming HSBC SVSN Perth Sevens tournament, scheduled for January 24 to 26. The Coral Coast 7s tournament itself will take place over three days, from January 16 to 18, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
This event not only showcases local talent but also attracts international players, creating a vibrant atmosphere for rugby enthusiasts. It serves as a significant opportunity for Fiji’s emerging talents to make their mark on the global stage, highlighting the country’s strong rugby heritage.
