Fiji’s Sevens Stars Gear Up for Coral Coast Challenge

Eight members of the national men’s sevens extended squad have been selected to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. The selection was made by head coach Osea Kolinisau.

The players chosen from the Fiji men’s sevens team are Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will be joined by stars such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, Matai Leuta from the USA, and South Africa’s Rosko Specman.

Jay Whyte, the chairman of the tournament organizing committee, noted that the inclusion of the Mike Friday Select Sevens team is a new and exciting development for the tournament. He added that other international players, including Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France, will also compete, highlighting the tournament’s global appeal.

These eight players will see this tournament as an important opportunity to showcase their skills and secure a place in the men’s squad for the HSBC SVSN Perth Sevens, which is scheduled for January 24 to 26.

The Coral Coast 7s tournament will take place over three days, from January 16 to 18, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Overall, this event promises to be a significant occasion not just for the players involved but also for enhancing the profile of rugby in Fiji. With a diverse roster of talent and international participation, the tournament sets the stage for thrilling competition and potential future successes for the athletes.
