Osea Kolinisau, the head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, has officially named his squad for the upcoming HSBC Dubai Sevens, which marks the opening leg of the 2024/2025 series. The announcement came following the conclusion of the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament in Lautoka, where Fiji 7s Blue triumphed over the Taikita Brothers with a decisive 29-5 victory to claim the championship.
The national team entered the tournament with two squads—Fiji 7s Blue and Fiji 7s White. While Fiji 7s Blue emerged victorious, Fiji 7s White faced a tough semi-final, suffering a narrow 10-15 defeat at the hands of the Taiki Ta Brothers. This competitive experience has provided valuable insights into the team’s readiness for the challenges in Dubai.

He highlighted the intense preparation that each member showed in hopes of being selected. After a rigorous training session at the FRU High Performance Gym in Laucala Bay, Suva, Kolinisau underlined the high stakes of the upcoming competition and the pressures associated with his role as head coach. “Selecting a new squad is always tough, with both new and experienced players involved. We have a standard we aim to uphold,” he remarked.
