The Ministry of Education in Fiji is collaborating with the Fiji Police Force to assess and profile students who may pose a risk to the safety and well-being of their peers in school environments. This initiative follows a recent school brawl involving students outside of Nabua Secondary School, which has raised concerns regarding student behavior and school safety.
Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized that students identified as threats may face severe consequences, including potential expulsion. He stated that the Ministry is aligning its efforts with the police to investigate the underlying causes of the brawl, and he supports Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu’s call to action against such troubling behaviors, particularly when they occur while students are in uniform.
Radrodro acknowledged the challenges that violent incidents pose to the educational system, where such behaviors can deter school leaders from admitting certain students. He reinforced the Coalition government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has the right to education while also highlighting the necessity of maintaining a safe learning environment.
Additionally, he urged parents and guardians to take an active role in monitoring their children’s behaviors and stressed the Ministry’s obligation to ensure the safety of all students. Ongoing investigations in collaboration with the Fiji Police will continue to address these matters, aiming to cultivate a safer and more supportive educational experience for every student.
