Fiji’s schoolboys head coach, Peniona Ranitu, is set for his first national assignment today as his team faces off against the Australian schoolboys in what promises to be a competitive match at Lawaqa Park. The much-anticipated clash between Fiji and Australia is scheduled to kick off at 6 pm tonight.
Ranitu, who previously coached Lautoka Rugby this season, has been appointed to his first national coaching role due to his impressive display of leadership and tactical skills at the domestic level. This opportunity represents a significant milestone in his coaching career as he takes on the responsibility of guiding the nation’s top schoolboy players.
“It will be a huge challenge for me, moving from domestic competition to my first national job,” said Ranitu. He emphasized that the discipline of his players will serve as a crucial strength in their upcoming match against Australia.
The coach has been dedicated to building a cohesive team, highlighting the need for discipline both on and off the field. Despite the limited preparation time, he is confident that the team’s work ethic and commitment will be vital when facing the tough Australian side, known for its physical play and tactical prowess.
“We have worked hard on maintaining structure and unity, and I believe that will help us stay composed during the game,” Ranitu stated. “Australia will be tough, but we are ready for the challenge.”
Ranitu has named a robust 23-member squad for today’s match. The forward line will feature Rupeni Nuinui at loosehead prop, Waisake Vakacere at hooker, and Raymond Navunikaba at tighthead prop. The second-row will include Sosiceni Waqa and Saimoni Vaisova, while Isoa Koroinawai, Samuela Tuidraki, and Sireli Nete will form the loose forward trio.
In the backline, the team will be led by the winning halves duo from Queen Victoria School’s Deans U18 competition, with Meli Waqairadovu at scrumhalf and Anare Tabakaucoro at fly-half. The center positions will be filled by Joji Rakaba and Maleli Nauvasi, with Duacake Vulainabuwaha and Nathan Stephens on the wings, and Josaia Ralulu at fullback.
