Fiji schoolboys’ head coach Peniona Ranitu is set to embark on his first national assignment, leading his team against the Australia schoolboys in a highly anticipated match at Lawaqa Park, scheduled to kick off at 6 pm tonight.
Ranitu, who has previously coached Lautoka Rugby, was selected for this national role due to his impressive track record in leadership and tactical skills at the domestic level. This opportunity represents a significant milestone in his coaching career, as he takes on the responsibility of guiding the nation’s top schoolboy talents.
“It will be a huge challenge for me, coming from domestic competition to my first national job,” Ranitu acknowledged. He expressed confidence in his team’s discipline, which he believes will serve as their strength in the match against Australia.
With limited preparation, Ranitu has prioritized building a well-rounded team, emphasizing the importance of discipline both on and off the field. He is convinced that the team’s work ethic and commitment will be essential in facing a strong Australian team renowned for its physical play and tactical acumen.
“We have worked hard on maintaining structure and unity, and I believe that will help us stay composed in the heat of the game,” he stated. “Australia will be tough, but we are ready for the challenge.”
Ranitu has named a formidable 23-member squad for today’s clash. The forward pack will feature Rupeni Nuinui as the loosehead prop, joined by Waisake Vakacere at hooker and Raymond Navunikaba as the tighthead prop. The second-row will consist of Sosiceni Waqa and Saimoni Vaisova, while Isoa Koroinawai, Samuela Tuidraki, and Sireli Nete will complete the loose forward trio.
The backline will be led by the winning halves pairing from Queen Victoria School Deans U18, with Meli Waqairadovu at scrumhalf and Anare Tabakaucoro at fly-half. Joji Rakaba and Maleli Nauvasi will occupy the center positions, while Duacake Vulainabuwaha and Nathan Stephens will be positioned on the wings, with Josaia Ralulu at fullback.
