Fiji Seismology has reported a series of 47 earthquakes that occurred in the Savusavu Bay area starting from 1:00 p.m. today. These quakes, with magnitudes ranging between 1.0 and 4.0, were primarily recorded on the western side of the bay, near Natuvu Village.

While the majority of these quakes are classified as minor to light, their shallow depth and close proximity to local communities mean that they are likely to be felt by residents. Fiji Seismology has stated that this recent series of tremors does not imply that a significant earthquake is on the horizon, as swarms like these typically consist of multiple earthquakes of similar magnitudes.

Despite residing in a region with relatively high seismic activity, Fiji Seismology emphasizes the importance of staying vigilant and prepared for any potential earthquakes.

It is reassuring to note that while these tremors may cause discomfort, they have not escalated into major seismic events. The public is advised to remain informed and prepared but not to panic, as such occurrences are a natural part of living in a seismically active area.
