Sakiusa Bainivalu, a Year 12 student from Queen Victoria School, eagerly anticipates his upcoming opportunity to represent Fiji at the Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, scheduled for January 17-20, 2025. AYIMUN is a prominent platform that gathers young leaders from across the globe to discuss and tackle pressing world issues.

This event, organized by the International Global Network (IGN), marks a significant milestone for Sakiusa, as he has never before had the chance to represent his country in such a forum. Hailing from Tabuya, Nabukelevu-ira, Kadavu, he expressed his enthusiasm, stating that being selected among thousands of participants is an incredible achievement.

Sakiusa earned his spot at AYIMUN by writing a compelling essay addressing various social challenges faced in Fiji, including domestic violence, drug-related issues, and the erosion of cultural identity. He articulated his belief that participating in this international conference will greatly enhance his leadership skills and empower him to make a positive impact.

To facilitate his journey, Sakiusa’s parents have covered the expenses amounting to U.S. $779 (FJ $1785), which includes accommodation, transportation, and meals during the event. Following his participation, Sakiusa plans to pursue a career in medicine, with a focus on non-communicable diseases.

This story is not only a representation of young talent stepping onto a global stage, but it also emphasizes the importance of youth engagement in addressing social issues. Sakiusa’s aspiration to become a leader in healthcare reflects a commitment to serving and improving communities, hinting at a brighter future for Fiji and the world.

In summary, Sakiusa Bainivalu’s journey to AYIMUN is a testament to the potential of youth activism and leadership, showcasing how young individuals can initiate meaningful conversations and contribute to solutions for societal problems.
