Queen Victoria School Year 12 student Sakiusa Bainivalu is eager to represent Fiji at the upcoming 2025 Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This educational event, scheduled for January 17-20, gathers youth leaders from across the globe to collaborate on addressing pressing world issues.

Sakiusa is particularly enthusiastic as this will be his first time representing Fiji in such a forum. Hailing from Tabuya, Nabukelevu-ira, Kadavu, he expressed his excitement by stating, “This is a huge breakthrough for me. To be selected out of thousands of participants and to be around other people and share thoughts and opinions is phenomenal.”

His selection stemmed from a compelling essay detailing social challenges in Fiji, including domestic violence, the rise of illicit drugs, and cultural loss, highlighting their impact on society. Sakiusa noted, “I expressed my opinion on how attending the International MUN conference can mould me into a productive and inspiring leader.”

To attend the conference, his parents invested U.S. $779 (FJ $1785) for his travel expenses, which include hotel accommodation, transportation, and meals. Sakiusa has aspirations to study medicine, with a focus on non-communicable diseases upon his return.

This opportunity not only serves as a significant milestone for Sakiusa but also reflects the potential of young leaders to influence positive change in their communities and beyond. His journey is an inspiring reminder of how youth engagement in global discussions can pave the way for a brighter future.
